I saw this on the Invisible Children Facebook page today and it shouted a message that I think people are starting to forget – be it of your own doing or the doing of society around you.
We are all, yes – even you, are guilty of doing something that hurts (although we seem to be outrageously passive in our acceptance of it), we have spoken badly of someone who is not there to defend themselves, we judge, we gossip, we throw stones and as much as we hear quotes like “people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones” or ” don’t judge a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes.” – those quotes are starting to lose their substance and it’s only when you are in the firing line do you have a taste of your own ammunition.
This quote made my heart stir a little:
“You know my name, not my story.
You’ve heard what I’ve done, not what I’ve been through.
If you were in my shoes, you’d fall the first step.”
You will never know the storm in someone’s life until you risk the time to get to know them, so be gentle with the people who come into your life.
Take the time to be kind to a stranger, even if it is a passing smile. You never know, you might just save a life.
